Thursday 26th February 2015
The Ashley School hosted the above tournament. 10 teams took part with players from The Ashley School, Warren School, Ormiston Denes, Pakefield High and Bungay High.
The Ashley School Sports Leaders were the officials for the tournament and refereed and scored the games. They were assisted by Ross Munroe from Lowestoft Boccia Club and Jean Dewsbury from Leiston Boccia Club.
The Ashley 2 team of Ashley Catchpole, Lewis Covill and Callam Mc Mullan won 3 games and drew 2 and ended in 7th position, whilst the Ashley 1 team of Jordan Jackson, Luke Wilcox, Ines Santos and Kieron kimble won all their first round games putting them into the final against Ormiston Denes. Ashley won the first game 1- 0 and Ormiston Denes won the 2nd game 2-0 making Ormiston Denes the overall winners 2-0, but an excellent runners up result for the Ashley 1 Team.
A big well done to all players and to the Sports Leaders who did themselves proud. The Sports leaders will now qualify for the Boccia England Bronze Young Officials Award.

World Book Day Report 2015
World Book Day 2015 was celebrated on Thursday 26th February by the pupils of The Ashley School Academy Trust. It was a chance to read for pleasure, make and share books, take part in activities from the World Book Day website and watch a theatre production of “The Amazing Adventures of Robin Hood” by the Hobgoblin Theatre Company.
Staff from the school shared their favourite novels or non- fiction texts and there were posters across the school detailing why they liked their books and what reading meant to them.
There was a tremendous audience participation when the whole school watched the adventures of Robin Hood and his merry band of men; not forgetting Maid Marion, of course! The legend had been studied by the whole school and the children knew the characters and the story well. Pupils of all ages enjoyed the exciting action and terrific performances of the actors. One Year 8 boy stated, “I have been looking forward to World Book Day for ages and the play was awesome! The actors were really funny.”
Key stage 3 students had worked hard all term on making their own books to share with Key stage 2 pupils. It is a real school tradition now and some books from Year 9 children were created on iPads with videos and exciting interactive features. It was great to see the two key stages reading together for pleasure. A Year 4 pupil reported,” I liked meeting the older children. They were friendly and their stories were fun“. The book exchange is a project which has continued for many years. Older pupils remembered what it was like when they were in primary classes and were very kind and considerate to the younger children.
The whole school really enjoyed the World Book Day lunch cooked by Margaret and her team and loved reading for pleasure throughout the day. One Year 10 pupil commented, “I liked the special menus linked to favourite stories that I have read.”
The Ashley World Book Day was an excellent celebration of books and reading across the school. Pupils thoroughly enjoyed the exciting activities and responded very positively. Parents are supporting their children’s reading and continue to place orders with our Scholastic Book Club. Comments from parents in the Family Group were very favourable and they felt that their children had learned a lot from the experience.
The Ashley School World Book Day was organised by Mrs J. Redrup, our English Co-ordinator.

The Pupil and Family Support Team
We would like to introduce our team. Marion Trowbridge heads the Pupil and Family Support team, she has lots of experience and has worked at our school for many years.
Marion, (pictured below right) is assisted by Sam Bover (pictured below left), Louise Holmes and currently a Vacancy.
They have wide-ranging experiences of working with children in various settings.
The team are here to support pupils as well as parents and carers during times when life becomes confusing and troubling.
Often it helps to have someone you can trust to talk to, someone who will support and listen to you and help you to work things out. They aim to understand how difficulties may affect how pupils learn and behave in school and home.
The team work with pupils, parents and carers to reduce stresses and strains. They work in various ways, supporting pupils in small group settings as well as on a one to one basis. All support is tailored to individual pupil needs. By working in this way the team are able to build trust and communication between school and home.
The team hope you will find them friendly and approachable, so that if you are worried about your child or a difficult situation in your family you can contact them for support.
You can contact any member of the team by calling us on 01502 565439
